Port Health Regulations
This article is a stub. Please feel free to expand it and make it more encyclopaedic.
Port Health regulations include
- Health Protection (Ships and Aircraft) Regulations. [1]
- The Public Health (Aircraft) Regulations 1979.[2]
These provide local authorities with certain legal powers, including the power to put a traveller from a country in which a serious disease is prevalent under surveillance, or to require them to be examined. They do not, however, include a power of detention or restraint. As failing to comply with a surveillance order is a crime, it is possible that the Serious Organised Crime And Police Act might allow arrest/detention/restraint if it is "necessary".
