Ophthalmia neonatorum

This is was a notifiable diseases in 1984 Public Health Act.
Any eye infection that occurs in the first month of a baby’s life can be classified as ophthalmia neonatorum. For public health purposes we are particularly concerned about such infections caused by:
- Neisseria gonorrhoea
- Chlamydia - known as trachoma
